Happenings Party Rentals was the brainchild of Karen Burland, which she started in May 1989 on Stewart Road. After five years, Karen sold half her shares to Mike Carleton (a kid fresh out of Georgian College’s Business Administration program). Armed with a lot of energy and imagination, albeit little experience, they set out to establish their business.
They began by expanding into the tent realm to compliment their existing inventory of tables, chairs, dishes, and glassware. With the popularity of outdoor weddings, special events, and festivals that take place in and around the Collingwood area, business was booming! Happenings had to work hard to keep pace with the demands of clients, but that’s exactly what we did.
After 14 years in the industry, Karen decided to pursue a new career path and sold her shares to Mike who to this day is he sole owner of the company. As recognition of Mike’s efforts and achievements, he received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999.
